SINCE I PICKED UP A CAMERA I WANTED MY PHOTOS TO BE A TOOL TO BRING PEOPLE CLOSER TO THE OCEAN. THE SEA WAS MY FIRST CANVAS AND WATER IS STILL MY FAVORITE SUBJECT. AT TIMES IT CAN BE OVERWHELMING TO THINK OF HOW WE CAN GIVE BACK TO IT AND THE CREATURES THAT CALL IT HOME. IT’S OFTEN THROUGH SMALLEST ACTIONS THAT BIG CHANGES ARE MADE.
Surf’s up! I had the privilege to interview self taught photographer Chris Burkard. Burkard has dedicated his career to photography with a purpose, which includes surf, landscape, lifestyle and travel. It’s safe to say Chris is surfing on high waves! His approach to photography is capturing some of the world’s most beautiful landscapes, through his lens. Behind the lens, there is a person who has a vision that has capture our imagination through his creativity. His work is impactful by all means and is what he’s destine to do.
The beauty of art is to illuminate, educate, and inspire. As I was exploring Mr. Burkard’s work at the Paul Nicklen Gallery in New York City I came to realization that our world is full of beautiful wonders that are discovered everyday by photographers. While observing and trying to interpret his vision I instantly felt a deep connection through Mr. Burkard’s work. He has the natural ability to inspire people through his creative lifestyle and take you to places above and beyond this world that you may not know exists.
Truth to be told, this clever and creative entrepreneur success did not come over night and his passion for landscapes has taken him to a short film called “Under An Arctic Sky.” Chris Burkard is a prime example of how your passion could turn into your profession. In sum, if I can describe his artistry to the world, in a few words, I would say he is passionate, adventurous, influential, and visionary. Creative individuals such as Mr. Burkard go through great lengths to achieve iconic images. This is artistry at it’s finest and this is how the eyes of a photographer can inspire the world. Until Next Time, Rachel Ulloa is ON THE GO…
A special thanks to Chris Burkard and Paul Nicklen. Chris Burkard’s film “Under An Arctic Sky” is now available on iTunes.
