IT ALL STARTED WITH CHARLES FREDERICK WORTH, WHO WAS THE FIRST DESIGNER TO HAVE HIS LABEL SEWN INTO THE GARMENTS THAT HE CREATED. FASHION HAS A COME A LONG WAY FROM CHARLES FREDERICK WORTH. NEW YORK FASHION WEEK IS MORE THAN HAVING A DESIGNER LABEL SEWN INTO HIS/HER CLOTHING. I WANT TO REMEMBER THE FASHION AND THIS IS WHAT EXACTLY WHAT INTREPID BY AO’C, ACID NYC, AND ALL COMES FROM NOTHING PROVIDED AT NOLCHA SHOWS during NYFW.
INTREPID BY AO’C : With designer Aerin O’Connell, it was all about women’s wear. Her 2016 Fall/Winter Collection was very luxurious. Down the runway many of the designs were based on one color. That showed her designs being very timeless. O’Connell’s set was neutral-heavy. Which I liked. The first looks were (including a see-through top at one point) “all black everything” (thanks, Jay-Z et al.), and they seemed to set the tone for how O’Connell would run her runway. Such looks made her 2016 Fall/Winter collection one of a kind designs. Less is more! The color black is timeless and a color that any woman can look wonderful in. Then there was the dressy grayish-beige jumpsuit that was stunning. The combination of the base color, the sweetheart neckline, and the black side stripes was edgy but not over the top. That number can be styled up or down, and its neutral nude color can be worn on any occasion and is a must have for anyone that appreciates fashion to have in their closet. The final Intrepid piece, a beautiful royal blue dress, stole the show, and was an example of how O’Connell blends elegance and simplicity. She can use one color for a dress, and instead of adding to the dress, makes it speak for itself. Check out the photos for yourself. [Photos: Brian Ach/Getty Images for NOLCHA SHOWS]

ACID NYC: Designer husband and wife Evelyn Luna and Scott Chester showed that married couples can make business work. Or, better said, make fashion work. Acid NYC brings, for starters, functionality: the designers used a material called ThermalTech, a steel mesh placed inside their pieces that warms the wearer by absorbing heat, in their collection. Interesting, right? Even more interesting was what I saw on the runway…here’s a rundown! The creativity in Acid NYC’s 2016 Fall/Winter collection was not limited to the use of prints. The combination of colors that they used for their designs made the clothing come to life. It was not just about using bright colors in their collections, but it was also about the coordination of said colors, as well as the coordination of materials and styles that they decide to use in their design that made everything work with one another, from dresses to jackets to blouses. And let’s not forget the bags…especially the bags, such statement pieces! Every element dominated the runway and showed the geniuses that are Luna and Chester behind their brand. All Comes From Nothing: Designer Eva Yiwei Xu’s designs are based on an art-inspired contemporary collection. What dominated the runway were jackets, sweaters, skirts, and pants that were very classic, classy, and simple, but she still had the ability to show the detail that made her collection stand out. The ACFN collection is elegant and can be worn day to evening. The designs on the runway made for finished looks with complete fashion pieces. It was all about form-fitting, and more important, high-quality style. Take a look for yourself.
