NEW YORK FASHION WEEK HAS COME A LONG WAY SINCE IT WAS CREATED BY ELEANOR LAMBERT IN 1943! WHAT WAS ONCE CALLED “PRESS WEEK” IS NOW KNOWN THROUGHOUT THE WORLD AS “FASHION WEEK” AND NEW YORK FASHION WEEK IS THE PLACE TO BE! FROM THE CLOTHING AND ACCESSORIES TO THE MODELS, DESIGNERS, PRESS, AND EVEN BUYERS, NEW YORK IS A GLOBAL STAGE WHEN IT COMES TO FASHION. MANY PEOPLE CAME OUT TO NOLCHA SHOWS AT ARTBEAM DURING FASHION WEEK TO EXPLORE WHAT DESIGNERS ARE SHOWCASING FOR FALL/WINTER 2016.
Nolcha Shows first introduced the VITRUVIUS Fall/Winter collection. Metallic was one of many colors that caught my attention. Let’s not forget 3 dimensional shapes that demonstrated creativity on the runway from beginning to end. The designs were futuristic and sprinkled with the right amount of Gaga…no meat dresses here, but everything from the collection was not ordinary but extraordinary. From the metallics to the plastic — and let’s not forget 3 dimensional shapes — nothing w repetitive. [Ms. Germanotta herself would have loved this set!] These looks may be a sign of Jetsons-esque days ahead; more important, it left me with suspense to see what the future holds for VITRUVIUS. Talk is cheap; let the photos speak. [Photos below: Brian Ach/Getty Images for NOLCHA SHOWS]
Cute Like Mad: Metallics, red, and black and the combination of the three were the colors showcased on Cute Like Mad’s runway. Materials like velvet were popular. From dresses to wraps to jackets, there was something that everyone should be interested in. A red dress combined with a grey velvet wrap made both individual pieces stand out the same. Something to also watch for? The off-the-shoulder sweaters that were very elegant and showed the right amount of neckline. There were many timeless pieces that Cute Like Mad showcased at NYFW. Planet Zero Motorsports: Leather, leather and more leather. It was all about the leather for Planet Zero Motorsports. Excuse me to all the animal activists out there, but on this runway, on model after model, Kenya Smith made his mark in leather with his collection. Edginess was what you saw come down that runway…not from the models but from each design itself. The white leather with black strips was one example of Planet Zero biker chic. Let’s not forget the black and red color combo (again!) and the Union Jack imprinted on a black leather jacket and white matching helmet. (The London look, anybody?) This is biker gear at its most elegant. Planet Zero Motorsports made a bold statement in how biker wear can be fashionable. This will make anybody want to shut up and drive (thanks, Rihanna!). Fine Art of Fashion (Stevenson): What was seen down this runway was very diverse and versatile when it came to the styles that Fine Art of Fashion showcased at Nolcha Shows. I did not know what to expect. I started viewing each design like I was looking at a painting. I thought to myself as I sat front row, “what was the designer thinking?” There was no sameness in each runway look. The clothing became individual pieces. Model after model that walked down the runway made me appreciate not only the fashion but the designer’s artistic side. Nothing was duplicated, but in some areas you notice the same shade of color. For instance, at one point a very simple, tasteful, elegant gown colored in a soft pink was presented down the runway. The top of the dress seemed to be hand beading. Seconds later, a model walks down in sky blue pants, with a matching top that only covered the shoulders accented by three bright yellow hexagons. Between the sky blue pieces was a tube top that look similar to a tutu. Let’s not forget capes and dresses with beautiful dye colors; they were also among the many looks that were different from one another. Take a look for yourself. Minan Wong: It was all about skirts and dresses for designer Minan Wong’s Fall/Winter 2016 collection that caught my eye for the most part. Patterns were very popular on skirts and a couple of dresses, but it was nothing that made a roar. I mean that in a very positive way. Down the runway the designs were very stylish. Wearing one of these looks from the runway, you have many choices in how you can style yourself in MinanWong. Which every fashionista should be excited about. Jackets were also popular here, which turned it up a notch when worn with one of Minan Wong’s skirts or dresses. [Photos: Brian Ach/Getty Images for NOLCHA SHOWS]
